Outlawed: A short documentary by the human rights group WITNESS relating two first hand experiences of extraordinary rendition. One german citizen was held for 5 months in Morocco and then transfered and released on the border of Albania in the middle of the night. Another British citizen was held and tortured in several countries for over 3 years before being transfered to Guantanemo Bay.
As a CIA operative says in the film ‘torture is counterproductive in terms of trying to get information thats usable.’ Indeed the British detainee was told by his local handlers to “Just say what we want” so they can pass the information back to the Americans. Meanwhile there is heated debate in the US Congress on whether to legislate for the continued existance of the CIA’s secret prisons. Although reading this NYTimes article you wouldnt really have a clue whats happening. This article does a better job of explaining what is really at stake.
